Joomla is a Content Management System (CMS) and is available as a Free download from www.joomla.org.
The downloaded files are then uploaded to the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and an installation procedure carried out which includes linking the site into a database stored at the ISP. From then on the site is managed online and all the content stored in the database.
To Learn to set up a site using Joomla does take some time but individuals can be taught how to update the site content in a few minutes using what is called "Front End Access". So, for example, an authorized person who has been given a User Name/Password can add info on an event or minutes of a meeting with minimal training.
This particularly attractive for a community site where it is desirable to minimise the cost of running the site and allow the site to be updated easily.
It is also straight forward to add facilities for the public to submit comments or articles for publication which is a facility available this site. This set up in such a way that the Trust will be able to check articles before the are published on the site and articles cannot be submitted before the email address given has been validated.
This system is also being used for the new Whitchurch Community site which will appear soon at www.whitchurchshropshire.org and for the Whitchurch Parish Plan site at www.whitchurchshrop.org.uk.
